Folk legend Richard Thompson, who’s had a solid run of 20 previous solo albums, plus albums with Fairport Convention and his ex-wife, Linda Thompson, returns with an album that isn’t so much anti-folk as it is folk amplified beyond even what its cheeky title would suggest.
  2. Micage says:
Recorded at Buddy Miller's Nashville home studio with little more than his core trio, Electric finds Richard Thompson at his most stripped-down and potent, spinning cautionary tales .
  3. Nashicage says:
Will you dance Charlie boy, will you dance? Will you dance Charlie boy, will you dance? Though the sequins are worn and tattered and torn And the seat is right out of your pants Will you dance Charlie boy, will you dance? Will you dance Charlie boy, will you dance? One more time, Charlie boy, with your old pride and joy.

The instant hit though is 'Will you Dance, Charlie boy'', a full blown rocker - with plenty of Thompson's trade mark string bending. - again the sound on this track is very full, drum and bass are very much part of the sound, rather than being thrown at you. My own busy playing schedule has meant I have only managed a couple of listens as yet/5().

"Saving The Good Stuff For You" - ; A Deluxe Edition with a bonus disc was also made available. The bonus disc contains four outtakes from the 'Electric' sessions and three additional tracks from other Thompson albums "Will You Dance, Charlie Boy" "I Found A Stray" "The Rival" "The Tic-Tac Man" "Auldie Riggs" (from Cabaret Of Souls).

I know Mr. Thompson values economy - but if you name your album "Electric" - and you have the guitar pedigree this guy does - you don't need to scrimp on the guitar playing. I bought this thinking I'd have to have my eyebrows penciled-in after the first listening, but no such fireworks/5().

from the album Electric (Bonus Disk version only) () There is little I can add to the long list of accolades that accompany any description of Richard Thompson, except to say that I believe he is about the finest songwriter, guitarist, and vocalist in music today and that two of his songs - Wall Of Death and Vincent Black Lightning - rank amongst my favorite songs ever.
